Who is responsible for your data

Skillyard is operated by Skillyard Ltd, company number 17323368, registered at 93 Badger Road, Thornbury, BS35 1AB. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Skillyard Ltd is the data controller. You can reach us about anything in this policy at hello@skillyard.co.uk.

If you are a buyer

You can browse Skillyard and contact trainers without an account, and we do not ask you to register. In normal browsing we do not collect personal data that identifies you. We do not track you as you browse and we do not build any profile of you. We do count how busy the site is, and How we count visits below explains exactly how that works.

If you save trainers to a shortlist, that shortlist is stored only in your own browser, on your own device. It is not sent to us, we cannot see it, and no trainer can see it. It stays with you until you clear it or clear your browser data.

If you use the finder, the description you type is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude AI model reads it and suggests the categories that fit, so we can show you trainers. We do not store your description. Your last finder search is also kept in your browser tab, so it is still there if you go back to it, and it is forgotten when you close the tab.

If you contact us directly, for example through our contact form or by email, we will hold the details you send us for as long as needed to deal with your message.

If you list a business

To create an account and a listing, we collect the information you give us. This includes your account email address, the details of your listing such as business name, descriptions, service areas, logo and images, and the contact details you choose to publish, which may include an email address, phone number, website and social links.

We use this information to create and display your listing, to manage your account, to review and moderate listings, to contact you about your listing and account, and to take payment for your subscription. The contact details you publish on your listing are shown to buyers, because the purpose of the listing is for buyers to reach you.

If you use auto-draft, the website address you give us is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude AI model reads the public pages of that site and drafts your listing for you to check. While you write a new listing, your draft is also saved in your own browser until you save it, so a closed window does not lose your work.

Our lawful bases

We process trainer data to perform our contract with you, providing the listing service you have signed up for. We process some data on the basis of our legitimate interests in running and protecting the directory, such as moderating listings and preventing abuse. We do not use non-essential or tracking cookies, so we do not rely on cookie consent.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service, and they process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements:

Supabase, for our database and file storage. Vercel, for hosting the website. Resend, for sending account and transactional emails. Cloudflare Turnstile, for protecting our forms against automated abuse. Stripe, for processing subscription payments. Anthropic, for the AI behind the finder and auto-draft.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and listing data for as long as you have a listing with us, and for a reasonable period afterwards so that you can reactivate if you wish and so we can meet our legal and accounting obligations. If you delete your listing, its content is removed from our systems, though your account remains unless you ask us to close it. You can ask us to delete your account and remaining data at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy of it in a portable form. Much of this you can do yourself from your dashboard. For anything else, contact us at hello@skillyard.co.uk and we will help.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Cookies and tracking

We do not track you. We use no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking, and we do not build a profile of you. Because we run no non-essential cookies, there is no cookie consent banner to click.

A few functional, strictly necessary things are stored on your device, and none of them track you. Your shortlist is saved in your own browser so your saved trainers stay with you between pages, and your last finder search is kept in your browser tab until you close it. If you are writing a listing, your draft is kept in your browser until you save it. If you sign in as a trainer, a session cookie keeps you logged in. And Cloudflare Turnstile places a token on our forms to help block automated abuse.

We do measure how the site is used, without cookies and without identifying you. The next section sets out what that involves.

How we count visits

Like any web server, our host records a line for each request it serves. That line includes the address the request came from, a description of the browser, and the page that was asked for. We read those lines to update a set of totals: how many times a page was opened, and whether the request came from a person, a search engine crawler or an AI assistant. The totals are all we keep. No page is linked to another, no journey through the site is reconstructed, and nothing is held against you as an individual.

To tell how many separate people visited on a given day, rather than how many requests they made, we combine the address and the browser description with a random key that changes every day, and turn the result into a short scrambled value. That value is enough to tell one visitor from another within a single day. It cannot be turned back into an address.

At the end of each day we keep the count, then delete those values and destroy the key that produced them. The day's visitors cannot be recognised again afterwards, by us or by anyone else. Nothing carries from one day to the next, so we have no way of telling whether someone who visits on a Monday is the same person who visits on the Thursday. That is deliberate.

IP addresses are not stored. They are used in the moment the count is updated and are not written anywhere.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to let account holders know.
