Tony Muxlow Developments
Refrigeration and air conditioning training for engineers and technicians, City & Guilds and IMI approved.
Tony Muxlow Developments is an independent UK training provider, listed under Vocational & Regulated Skills, based in Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire. Delivers in person, across the UK.
About
We run a City & Guilds and IMI approved training centre covering refrigeration and air conditioning, with courses including F-Gas Category 1, Hydrocarbons, Pipework & Brazing Techniques, and Single Split Air Conditioning. For the automotive side we offer the IMI Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigerant Handling, Basic Mobile Air Conditioning, and a Mobile Air Conditioning Service & Repair Programme, plus a specialist course on ice cream van refrigeration. Courses are run as small groups at our training centre in West Markham, near Newark, where free on-site parking, refreshments and lunch are provided on full-day courses, and on-site accommodation is available for anyone travelling from further afield. Alongside training, we're a stockist of JAVAC tools and equipment for the refrigeration and air conditioning trade, and can advise on and supply equipment for engineers upgrading or setting up their kit.

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN F-GAS & ODS REGULATIONS (2079-11)
The F-Gas 2079 Category 1 certification is the industry-recognised qualification required for engineers who install, service, maintain and repair refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems containing fluorinated gases. This course provides the training and assessment required to comply with the UK F-Gas Regulations and allows engineers to legally handle refrigerants such as R410A, R32 and other HFC refrigerants. The qualification focuses on safe refrigerant handling, environmental protection and industry best practice, combining both theoretical knowledge and practical assessment. Category 1 is the highest level of F-Gas certification and allows engineers to carry out the full range of refrigerant handling activities.
LEVEL 2 AWARD IN HYDROCARBON REFRIGERANTS (6187-21)
The 6187-21 City & Guilds Hydrocarbon Refrigerant Handling qualification is designed for engineers working with refrigeration and air conditioning systems that use hydrocarbon refrigerants such as R290 (Propane) and R600a (Isobutane). Hydrocarbon refrigerants are increasingly used due to their low environmental impact and high energy efficiency, but they are flammable, meaning engineers must be trained in safe working procedures. This course provides engineers with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely install, service, maintain and repair systems using hydrocarbon refrigerants, while complying with industry safety standards.
CITY & GUILDS BASIC MOBILE AIR CONDITIONING
This qualification provides a broader understanding of mobile air conditioning systems, including system operation, servicing procedures and basic fault diagnosis. This course can be taken as an alternative to the IMI Automotive Refrigerant Handling qualification for technicians looking to gain a recognised certification in mobile air conditioning.
IMI LEVEL 3 AWARD IN AUTOMOTIVE REFRIGERANT HANDLING
Our Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) courses are designed for technicians working on vehicle air conditioning systems, including cars, vans and light commercial vehicles. These courses cover the safe handling of refrigerants, system servicing, diagnostics and repair, ensuring compliance with current regulations and industry best practice. We offer a range of courses suitable for both beginners and experienced technicians, with a clear progression from legal certification through to advanced diagnostic training.
IMI MOBILE AIR CONDITIONING SERVICE & REPAIR PROGRAMME
This course is designed for technicians who want to develop their skills in servicing, diagnosing and repairing mobile air conditioning systems. We are the only training centre that has this programme. The programme focuses on practical fault finding, system performance and correct servicing procedures. This course is commonly taken after completing the IMI refrigerant handling qualification.
LEVEL 2 AWARD IN REFRIGERATION PIPEWORK & BRAZING (6187-01)
The 6187-01 City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Brazing and Pipework Techniques is designed for engineers working with refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems who need to develop or demonstrate competence in refrigeration pipework installation and brazing techniques. Correct pipework installation and brazing are critical skills when installing or repairing refrigeration systems. Poor brazing or pipework preparation can lead to refrigerant leaks, contamination, and system failure. This course provides both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training, allowing engineers to develop the skills required to produce strong, leak-free brazed joints while following industry best practices.
SINGLE SPLIT INSTALLATION & COMMISSIONING PROGRAMME
The IMI Accredited Single Split Installation & Commissioning Programme is designed for engineers who hold a valid F-Gas qualification and wish to develop their knowledge and practical skills in the installation, commissioning and decommissioning of single split air conditioning systems. The course is particularly suitable for engineers with little or no previous experience installing split air conditioning systems and provides a practical introduction to industry standard installation procedures. Combining classroom based learning with hands on practical training, candidates will gain experience covering all stages of a single split installation, from system positioning and pipework installation through to pressure testing, evacuating and commissioning.
